Memorial Day Weekend

BUS TRIP 2004 POEM

Judy Scherrer

This year we left the earliest ever.
That's OK; we were all together.
We needed to get on the road quickly
And we were lucky the air wasn't misty.

Our first stop for a break
was very close to Rend Lake.
We got in the line to the bathroom
And still managed to leave before noon.

We stopped for lunch in Paducah
With many choices to choose from.
Some had a hard time decidin'
While others just went to the Ryan's.

One more rest stop our drive's almost done.
As we approached our destination,
What could possibly be over the hill?
Oh my gosh! I think it's Nashville!

We started to enter a beautiful driveway
After we made our way off the highway.
We were starting to feel a little bit giddy
When we arrived at the Sheraton Music City.

Dinner was served with great tasting meat -
Chicken and beef and other great treats.
All the desserts piled high on the table
You would have thought we were living a fable.

We left for the dance in Murfreesboro.
We could not have wished for more-o.
All of the people there were talkers
And the club was the Tennessee Walkers.
Sunday morning we ate hearty
Before we went to church.
But we didn't want to show up tardy
If for the church we had to search.

The Country Music Hall of Fame
Contained many interesting exhibits.
There were too many things to name
Also time here would prohibit.

The restaurant was called "Cock of the Walk."
We ate good food on plates of tin.
We ate and ate and sat and talked.
It was an excellent place to have been.

Rhapsody Rounds was our next dance.
We had another great night.
We were glad to have the chance
To reach yet more new heights.

The afterparty skits were super.
They were drawing to a close.
We didn't expect this big blooper;
Tornado warning kept us on our toes.

We'll all commit this trip to memory
And think of all we've done
To make it super history
And remember only fun!
